A century of Oklahoma’s State Flag

Oklahoma did not adopt a state flag upon joining the Union on Nov. 16, 1907. Instead, Gov. Charles N. Haskell commissioned 92 women from across the state, including First Lady Lillian Elizabeth Haskell, to sew a U.S. flag with 46 stars to commemorate statehood. The flag was crafted at the Carnegie Library in Guthrie before being sent to Philadelphia, where it was raised over Independence Hall on July 4, 1908.
