A Group of People Smugglers From Bosnia and Herzegovina to Italy Was Arrested; They Also Tortured and Blackmailed Their Victims

Slovenian and Italian crime investigators have arrested several suspects in a joint operation who were smuggling people from Bosnia and Herzegovina through Croatia and Slovenia to Italy. Some of them were then kidnapped, tortured, filmed and then ransomed from their families.

According to Frontex, the presence of organizations like Open Arms acts as a magnet for people smugglers from Africa. And encourages criminal activity.

An international police operation, in which Slovenia also participated, broke up a criminal organization on Wednesday that was smuggling migrants from refugee camps in Bosnia and Herzegovina to Italy via Croatia and Slovenia. Five suspects were arrested in Italy on Wednesday, and one in Slovenia. One suspect, who is in the area between Bosnia and Croatia, is still being sought.
