Mega Drive icon Ecco The Dolphin is being revived after 25 years

Ed Annunziata and the original development team announced plans to remaster the 1992 classic Ecco the Dolphin and its 1994 sequel, Tides of Time, while developing a new third game.
This revival follows a decades-long hiatus after the 1995 release of Ecco Jr. And a 2016 lawsuit settlement with Sega that allowed new titles to move forward.
The original Ecco the Dolphin, a side-scrolling game for Sega Mega Drive featuring a dolphin defending Earth from alien threats, was praised for its graphics, soundtrack, and difficulty.
Annunziata announced that he and the full original development team plan to update the classic Ecco the Dolphin and Tides of Time titles, followed by the creation of a new installment featuring modern gameplay and enhanced graphics.
The official Ecco website features a countdown clock set to expire around late April 2026, but no release dates for the remasters or new title have been announced yet.
