The original architect of our House of Commons designed the room like a World Wrestling Entertainment match. There was to be a main party and an opposition party, (they had not heard of a multi-party system) and their seats were built across the mat, facing each other combatively. All the better to hurl insults at each other, but far enough apart to avoid fisticuffs.
