Agustín de Iturbide was a prominent politician and military officer who participated in the War of Independence and was proclaimed Emperor of Mexico under the name of Agustín I, on 18 May 1822. He was born on 27 September 1783 in Valladolid (today Morelia, Michoacan) and was shot on 18 July 1824, after being captured.
