How Old Are You Really? New Test Calculates Biological Age and Longevity With 90% Accuracy

Researchers from Mass General Brigham developed FaceAge, an AI tool that predicts biological age from facial photos to assess aging and longevity.
FaceAge was developed using a dataset of 58,851 images sourced from publicly available collections of individuals considered to be healthy, and it was subsequently applied to analyze facial photographs of 6,196 cancer patients prior to receiving radiotherapy.
The tool predicts survival outcomes in cancer cases and life expectancy for 100 palliative patients more accurately than 10 clinicians.
Co-Senior author Hugo Aerts said, "a simple selfie contains important information" that can aid clinical decisions, but more research is needed for clinical use.
Experts caution FaceAge should supplement, not replace, clinicians’ judgment due to ethical concerns, data bias risks, and psychological impacts on patients.
