Nigeria: JAMB UTME Glitch - Majority of Affected Candidates Are in Lagos
- JAMB registrar Professor Is-haq Oloyede announced on May 14, 2025, that a technical glitch affected over 379,997 2025 UTME candidates in Lagos and South East Nigeria.
- The cause of the disruption was a failed patch intended to update examination servers across 157 centers in Lagos State and South East states.
- The glitch impacted 206,610 candidates at 65 centers in Lagos and 173,387 candidates at 92 centers in the South East, where many Igbo reside.
- Oloyede apologized and took full responsibility, stating, "I apologise, I take full responsibility," while candidates began receiving rescheduling notices from May 15.
- The board invited stakeholders to review results amid protests and threats of legal action from ASUU-UNN, which alleges deliberate mass failure targeting South East candidates.
