Retiring judge Lambertina Galeana is in the premises of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic in Mexico City, waiting for her legal situation to be defined and if it is made available to a judge. She is charged with ordering the destruction of evidence related to the disappearance of Ayotzinapa’s teachers in 2014, when she was president of the Guerrero High Court of Justice. Last Wednesday she was arrested.

Just as the political and diplomatic storm in the relationship with the U.S. raged, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum’s government decided to reopen the hands-on Ayotzinapa Case, following his promise to the parents of the 43 missing students and their lawyers to explore a “new route” in the investigations in which Presidents Enrique Peña Nieto and Andrés Manuel López Obrador failed, which none convinced about the veracity and depth of their inquiries.
