B.C. woman, missing 18 months, declared deceased after remains found

On May 2, 2025, the Ridge Meadows RCMP confirmed that human remains discovered earlier in April have been identified as those of 36-year-old Rebecca Harbowy from Maple Ridge, who is now presumed deceased.
Around 1:20 a.m. On November 23, 2023, Harbowy left Ridge Meadows Hospital about eight hours into a doctor-recommended three-day detoxification period for substance abuse. She was observed heading eastward along the Haney Bypass near Burnett Street at approximately 2:05 a.m.
Police have released limited details about the remains' discovery in a forested area and have searched the location since early April but have not found Harbowy's full body.
Harbowy's family, including her sister Rachel Bertoia and mother Debbie Harbowy, expressed strong criticism of the hospital for letting her leave alone without warm clothing, money, a phone, or identification. Debbie remains hopeful that ongoing search efforts will lead to answers, saying she wishes she could bring Rebecca back and lay her to rest.
