A young brown bear was found shot dead in the northern regional unit of Kastoria, prompting an investigation by forestry and environmental authorities into what is being described as an illegal killing of a protected species.

A bear was found dead from a gunshot in the Lithia area of Kastoria, today, Monday, May 19, 2025. Residents of the area located the dead animal and immediately notified the Kastoria Forestry Office.
