The Minister of National Education has launched a "Daughters and Maths" plan, which includes these future "fit classes" to encourage girls to turn to science.

The Minister of Education wants to attract more girls into engineering and digital training. The reform of the high school of Jean-Michel Blanquer in 2019 had increased the gap between the number of girls and boys in the scientific fields.

According to a study by the Ministry, girls remain under-represented in scientific subjects in general terminal, engineering or computer and digital sciences, physical education and, to a lesser extent, mathematics and physics-chemistry.

On Tuesday, the Minister of Education announced a plan to reach 50% of high school students in mathematics by 2030, compared to 42% today. An ambition that aims to break stereotypes in school, but that divides the political class.

The government is considering a new government plan to catch up with the imbalance now in favour of boys (and thus at the expense of girls) in science and math training.
