Fights prompt early closure of Sterling Heights carnival

Authorities shut down a spring carnival in Sterling Heights about an hour early Saturday due to numerous fights that broke out in the crowd. Police said the Sterling Place Plaza Spring Fair on Van Dyke Avenue north of 16 Mile Road had pockets of violence break out.
