Extinguishing the fire was made more difficult because the source of the fire was in a part of the hold that was difficult to reach.

Scrap cargo ship fire in Amsterdam extinguished after nearly two days

A fire that broke out Thursday afternoon on a cargo ship loaded with scrap metal in Amsterdam’s Westelijk Havengebied was fully extinguished by around 8:45 p.m. Friday, the Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region reported.

The fire on a ship in the Western Port Area in Amsterdam is out, the fire department reports. Since Thursday afternoon there was a fire on the ship that was loaded with scrap material.
