Luxembourg is planning a €400 million increase in its defence spending to reach a Nato spending target sooner than scheduled, but not at the expense of social welfare, Finance Minister Gilles Roth said on Thursday.

Luxembourg is planning a significant increase in its defence spending. In its speech on the state of the nation, Prime Minister Luc Frieden announced on Tuesday that the country intends to devote EUR 400 million more to the defence every year in the future.
