Guns, ammo and pipe bomb seized, Nanaimo man arrested
- A 51-year-old Nanaimo man was arrested on May 2 after a witness reported he pointed a gun at them and then fled.
- A report to the Nanaimo RCMP led officers to apprehend the suspect behind a building close to where Fifth Street and Princess Street meet in the Harewood area.
- After the arrest, the man was formally charged with seven offences, such as aiming a firearm at someone, having a weapon used in a way that threatens public safety, and carrying a loaded.45-calibre handgun without the required license.
- On the same day, investigators from the special investigations unit conducted a search of his home, where they confiscated several guns, a large quantity of ammunition, and an improvised explosive device that was safely neutralized by the bomb disposal team.
- The individual is still being held and is set to attend a hearing at Nanaimo provincial court on May 13 to address the approved charges.
