The Maharashtra government has made Hindi a compulsory third language from Std I-V in Marathi and English medium schools in the state as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Maharashtra's education department mandates Hindi as a third language for Standards I to V in state government schools, alongside Marathi and English. This implements the State Curriculum Framework 2024 and restructures school education to a 5+3+3+4 pattern starting in the 2025-26 academic year.

The state school education department on Wednesday declared a phase-wise implementation plan of the new curriculum framework designed as per the NEP 2020 recommendations for school education.
