Initiative boosts women in coffee business

SIRONKO, Uganda — Meridah Nandudu envisioned a coffee sisterhood in Uganda, and the strategy for expanding it was simple: Pay a higher price per kilogram when a female grower took the beans to a collection point.

Since last year, cream cheese brand Kiri has been promoting women's empowerment. As part of this initiative, Kiri will donate a portion of its product sales, including limited edition packages, to the non-profit organization Women's Eye, which supports women. In addition, CEO Cecile Berio visited Japan and held a talk event to discuss women's careers.
