Islamic burial: Muslims demand their own gravefield

In Weinfelden Muslims want their own gravefield. This provokes resistance and awakens fears.

Miyagi Prefecture is planning to build a burial ground for Muslims who do not wish to be cremated for religious reasons, causing a stir. The prefectural office has received about 1,200 inquiries from prefectural residents, many of whom are opposed to the plan. Governor Yoshihiro Murai said the plan is intended to make up for future population decline and labor shortages with foreigners.
