French president Emmanuel Macron told the European Political Community summit that Russia was not trying to achieve a ceasefire. The summit kicked off on the same day as a meeting between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Turkey for negotiations.

The French president is of the opinion that the Russians are currently just trying to buy time in the war in Ukraine.
