Memorial Day remembrance ceremony set for May 26
- Gilmer’s annual public Memorial Day ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. On Monday, May 26, at the Gilmer Civic Center located on U.S. 271.
- Organizers moved the event indoors last year due to multi-million dollar renovations at the usual Upshur County Courthouse lawn venue.
- The ceremony will feature speaker Brig. Gen. Anthony D. Babcock and presentations by local veterans groups, including color guards and wreath laying.
- Gilmer High School AFJROTC will present the colors, and a free fish fry will follow at the nearby Disabled American Veterans headquarters.
- The event honors fallen service members and encourages community participation with limited seating and optional lawn chairs recommended.
