Don’t Worry About Insurgent Attacks, We Are in Control
- A civic group advocating for security reforms has demanded the resignation of Defence Minister Muhammed Badaru Abubakar after Boko Haram and ISWAP launched coordinated assaults on military installations in Borno State in May 2025, citing his failure to lead the armed forces effectively.
- The group cited inadequate military funding, lack of equipment, and alleged political ambitions of the Minister, accusing him of poor strategic leadership amid deteriorating North-East security.
- Within a single day, coordinated attacks struck military units stationed in Marte, Dikwa, Rann, and Gajiram, leading to casualties among soldiers and the destruction of equipment, while also highlighting serious shortcomings in leadership.
- NPSD President Mansur Ibrahim Dantani highlighted that the current lack of effective leadership has left soldiers exposed and called on President Tinubu to appoint a dedicated Defence Minister, stressing that the country’s safety must not be undermined by individual political interests.
- Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa affirmed military control over the situation and announced new weapon deployments and strategies to combat insurgent attacks in the North-East.
