Nearly a ton of cannabis smuggled during tea shipment

Koper police officers discovered almost a ton of cannabis, worth 2.3 million euros, hidden among tea that had arrived from Thailand.

While inspecting a shipment of goods at the customs warehouse in Sežana, Financial Administration officials suspected that the truck did not contain tea, as stated in the documentation. Analysis confirmed that almost a ton of the goods was cannabis.

Koper customs officers were handling a large shipment of tea on nine pallets, which was shipped to Europe via a company in Thailand. Due to suspicion, several samples were sent for analysis and it was found that the boxes, packed in 300-gram packages, contained almost a ton of cannabis, which dealers could sell on the market for more than two million euros.

Two men from Cluj were arrested after they raised two packages brought from Spain through a curator company.
