After twenty years of slow planning to leave the nuclear power station, Belgium is looking forward to returning back and allowing the expansion of production capacities again.

The Belgian Parliament has now decided to extend the duration of the existing nuclear reactors. The Belgian Government is even planning to build more reactors. Parliament voted by a large majority for an end to the nuclear phase-out. 102 Members were in favour of an extension of the duration of the existing reactors, eight voted against. The right-wing government of Belgium plans to extend the duration of old nuclear power plants and the construction of new reactors. Parliament adopted the proposal by a large majority.

Two nuclear power plants are in operation in Belgium, they were supposed to leave the grid until 2035. The exit had been decided more than 20 years ago, but now Parliament decides to turn around.
