Officials recognize National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month
- Over fifty motorcycles took part in a procession through areas of Roswell and Chaves County last Saturday to commemorate Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
- The motorcade followed nearly a decade of local rides organized by the Marines Motorcycle Club amid increased motorcycle traffic during May.
- Participants, including independent riders, prayed for safe journeys and urged all vehicle drivers to be more aware of motorcyclists on the roads.
- According to the NHTSA, motorcyclists face a risk of death in crashes that is 25 times higher than that of passenger vehicle occupants, with 6,335 fatalities in 2023 accounting for 15% of all traffic-related deaths.
- This event highlights ongoing efforts to improve rider awareness and safety, emphasizing the need for drivers’ attentiveness and expanded rider training during increased seasonal motorcycle activity.
