Pennsylvania governor’s residence to get an ‘anti-climb’ fence
- An intruder broke into Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro's Harrisburg residence around 2 a.m. On April 13, 2025, and started a damaging fire.
- The intruder, an unemployed welder, jumped the existing 7-foot metal and brick fence surrounding the mansion less than a month ago and faces charges including attempted homicide and arson.
- Following a security review led by former State Police commissioner Jeffrey B. Miller, State Police Chief Christopher Paris implemented changes including a uniformed division, more frequent assessments, and installation of a no-climb fence.
- Paris wrote that some security enhancements, such as the anti-climb fence, will be visible, but disclosing operational details would "obviously risk jeopardizing the safety" of protectees.
- These measures aim to strengthen protection at the residence along the Susquehanna River, about a mile from the Capitol, after the fire caused millions in damage but no injuries.
