The locals marched with slogans and saplings against the expropriation. Speaking at the protest, Zarife Yükler, a resident of Mağaracık whose land was expropriated, said, "My son worked in Arabia for 25 years to get that land. He died in the earthquake. What conscience will come and take it from me?"
