Saskatchewan officials were acting as "more than lobbyists — they're the mouthpiece for industry," said Mary Lou McDonald, a lawyer and founder of Safe Food Matters. "I used to think that with regulatory capture, industry would try to capture the government. This is the government trying to capture industry."
