The plane trees that remained underwater in the Gölcük district of Kocaeli during the August 17, 1999 Marmara Earthquake were photographed. Underwater photographer and documentary filmmaker Tahsin Ceylan said, "It would probably be enough for people who want to face the earthquake to come and see the plane trees underwater here. There are huge plane trees down there."
