Vancouver election office says record high voter turnout reason for long lineups for byelection

Vancouver’s elections office is attributing long lineups — some reported to be more than three hours long — at byelection voting stations to a record high voter turnout.

The vote comes 2½ years into the current council’s four-year mandate and is seen as a citywide referendum on the party with a majority on council.
