Waymo Expands Self-Driving Fleet with New US Manufacturing Facility
- Waymo announced on Monday it is opening a 239,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Mesa, Arizona, to expand its autonomous vehicle fleet.
- Waymo partnered with Canadian auto parts supplier Magna to develop the plant and integrate its sixth-generation Waymo Driver technology into Jaguar I-PACE electric SUVs.
- The Mesa factory features an automated assembly line and streamlined processes enabling vehicles to begin passenger service within 30 minutes of production.
- Waymo currently runs a fleet of more than 1,500 self-driving vehicles offering over 250,000 paid rides each week in several key U.S. Markets, including the metropolitan areas of Phoenix, the Bay Area, Southern California, and Austin. The company aims to grow its fleet by an additional 2,000 vehicles and extend its services to cities such as Atlanta, Miami, and Washington, D.C. By 2026.
- The facility will support Waymo's growth by producing thousands of vehicles annually, creating hundreds of jobs, and advancing its fully autonomous ride-hailing service nationwide.

Uber says Waymo is outperforming its human drivers in Austin.
