NEW MEXICO (KRQE) — The Motor Vehicle Division of New Mexico says an extra 10,600 customers came through their doors in April as the deadline for REAL ID enforcement began to creep up. The Real ID law's implementation has been subject to numerous delays, and its deadlines have been extended several times, most recently in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its implementation has begun after 20 years. As of May 7, driver's licenses available in 19 states that were issued regardless of the applicant's immigration status were no longer accepted at airports.
