Woman connected to the Zizians fired the bullet that killed a Vermont border agent, report says
- On January 20, during a traffic stop near the Canadian border on Interstate 91, a woman linked to the Zizians fired the bullet that killed U.S. Border Patrol agent David Maland.
- The stop followed a January 19 report that the couple, Teresa Youngblut and Felix Bauckholt, had stayed in a hotel wearing tactical gear, and both were later pulled from their Prius for questioning.
- Youngblut suddenly drew her firearm and fired four rounds, striking agent Maland in the neck, while Bauckholt also drew a weapon but was shot twice by an agent after failing to comply with orders.
- Four agents were on the scene; one fired about eight rounds in response, and after aid was rendered by agents and a Vermont state trooper, Maland died at the hospital while Youngblut was wounded and arrested.
- Youngblut faces charges for intentionally using a deadly weapon against federal law enforcement, and authorities link both her and Bauckholt to the cultlike group called the Zizians, which is associated with other killings.
